MPG & Trip Fuel Cost Calculator
Estimate the total cost of your trip, fuel consumption, and the split price per passenger. Compare different fuel efficiency units in real-time.
Frequently asked questions
How is the trip fuel cost calculated?
First, the calculator determines the total fuel volume needed by dividing the trip distance by the vehicle's fuel efficiency (adjusted for unit conversions). Then, it multiplies the fuel volume by the price of fuel. Finally, it adds any tolls and other expenses to give the total trip cost.
How does the split cost among travelers work?
When splitting costs, the calculator sums the fuel cost, tolls, and other trip expenses (such as parking or hotels) into a grand total, then divides this total equally by the number of travelers entered.
What is the difference between US MPG and UK MPG?
A US gallon is smaller than a UK imperial gallon (1 US gallon is approximately 3.785 liters, while 1 UK gallon is exactly 4.546 liters). Therefore, a car achieving 30 MPG US actually gets about 36.03 MPG in the UK, even though the physical fuel efficiency is identical.
